Deadline Extended for Filing Cable Statements of Account
On August 12, 2010, the National Cable and Telecommunications Association (NCTA) submitted a letter to the Copyright Office seeking a 30-day extension of the filing deadline for cable copyright statements of account (SOA) covering the first accounting period of 2010. The Office grants the relief requested by the NCTA. The passage of the Satellite Television Extension and Localism Act late last spring, and the subsequent work by the Office to revise the cable SOAs to reflect several changes in the Section 111 cable statutory license, have impaired the timely availability of the online forms cable operators use to pay their royalty fees. A 30-day filing extension will ensure that cable operators have enough time to accurately complete their SOA filings, thus reducing the need to file supplemental or amended SOAs. The extension is necessary because of unique, extenuating circumstances. The deadline to file cable SOAs for the first accounting period of 2010 is now September 29, 2010. (Read more.)
